Burn Burn Burn Low Res

(UK, 2015, 106 min.)
Director: Chanya Button

Gal pals Alex (Chloe Pirrie) and Seph (Laura Carmichael, Lady Edith of “Downtown Abbey”) just set off on a road trip across the UK with their witty friend Dan (Jack Farthing), who’s dropping clever one-liners along the way. Except Dan’s not your typical back-seat driver — try the glove compartment instead. His ashes occupy a Tupperware container in it. Dan’s last wish was for his two BFFs to scatter his ashes in the places where he was emotionally attached. In addition to their grief over his passing, both women are dealing with their own disappointments. Alex caught her girlfriend cheating; Seph hates her job and her boyfriend. Instead of facing their problems, this journey offers an opportunity to avoid them — often with comic encounters. This debut feature from director Chanya Button balances laughter and tears, with strong performances and razor-sharp script. Though this comedy may travel down familiar roads, Burn Burn Burn is not your typical road trip at all.
