Erasmus (Steve Coogan), the star chef of a hit television series, and his partner Paul (Paul Rudd), the cooking show’s producer, have been together for ten years. Erasmus is the drama queen; Paul is the long-suffering one. They bicker, drink, act out, drink, sulk and drink. They drink a lot.

The couple are shocked late one night when a 10 year old claiming to be Erasmus’ grandson, Bill (Jack Gore), shows up requesting Taco Bell and a place to stay. After the adorable but stubborn kid crashes a party at their luxurious ranch outside Santa Fe it’s not long before they realize this is not going to be a short visit.

Just as they grow into their parenting roles, Erasmus’ grown son threatens to take Bill from them when he gets out of prison. The introduction of this boy to their lives causes Erasmus and Paul to look at their former selves, who they have become, and who they want to be.

Winner of the 2018 Audience Awards at both the Edinburgh International Film Festival and FilmOut in San Diego, An Ideal Home turns out to be a laugh-out-loud movie about what makes a family.
